Why is isolation important for regulated industries?

With multi-tenant software, many companies use the same installation; their data is often held in the same database and only logically separated. With single-tenant, this shared layer does not exist: each installation is a separate, self-contained operation with its own data, its own configuration and its own access.

For banks, insurers, statutory health insurers and energy suppliers, this has practical consequences. A flaw in tenant separation cannot expose data of other companies, because there are no other companies in the installation. Hosting location, storage and configuration can be defined per customer. And in reviews by data protection, information security and outsourcing management, the question “Who shares what with whom?” is easy to answer.

The drawback of classic single-tenant solutions – higher operating effort – can be offset by automated provisioning. With the PBM Campaign Platform, the code base is identical across all installations; only the configuration differs. Each installation runs in its own Kubernetes cluster, hosted in Germany by default, optionally on AWS, Microsoft Azure or in other environments of your choice, with customer-owned S3 storage on request.
